The AI design tool landscape changes fast. This directory organizes the tools that are actually useful for UI/UX work, grouped by what they do. Last updated March 2026.

UI generation (text to design)

Galileo AI (usegalileo.ai). Generates high-fidelity UI designs from text prompts. The output looks like real designer work, not wireframes. Best for quickly exploring visual directions for screens before committing to detailed design. Export to Figma for refinement.

Uizard (uizard.io). Generates UI mockups from text descriptions and hand-drawn sketches. Lower fidelity than Galileo AI but faster for rough explorations. Also converts screenshots into editable designs. Free tier available, paid plans start at $12/month.

Figma AI. Built into Figma's editor. Features include AI-generated text content, design suggestions, and automated layer renaming. Not a full screen generator, but useful for speeding up repetitive tasks within your existing Figma workflow.

Code generation (text to UI code)

v0 (v0.dev). Vercel's AI that generates React components with Tailwind CSS and shadcn/ui. The best option for generating production-quality UI code. Output runs in Next.js projects out of the box. Free tier with limited generations, more with Vercel Pro ($20/month).

Lovable (lovable.dev). Generates complete web applications from descriptions. Goes beyond UI into routing, database connections, and auth. Best for full-app prototypes and MVPs. Free tier available, paid starts at $20/month.

Bolt (bolt.new). StackBlitz's AI that generates full-stack web apps in the browser. Spins up a complete dev environment, writes code, installs dependencies, and runs the app. Fast iteration loop for prototyping.

Cursor (cursor.com). AI-powered code editor. Not a generator from scratch, but the best tool for iterating on existing UI code. Understands your codebase context and makes targeted edits. $20/month for Pro.

Image generation

Midjourney (midjourney.com). The highest-quality AI image generator for design work. Strong at creating illustrations, hero images, and visual concepts. Not for generating UI screenshots, but excellent for marketing assets and visual direction. Plans start at $10/month.

DALL-E 3 (via ChatGPT). Good for quick concept images and illustrations. More accessible than Midjourney since it's integrated into ChatGPT. Quality is slightly below Midjourney for most design use cases.

Adobe Firefly (firefly.adobe.com). AI image generation integrated into Photoshop, Illustrator, and Express. The "Generative Fill" feature in Photoshop is genuinely useful for extending backgrounds, removing objects, and compositing. Included with Creative Cloud subscriptions.

Writing assistance

ChatGPT / Claude. Both are effective for generating UI copy: button labels, empty states, error messages, onboarding flows, and marketing copy. Claude tends to produce more natural, less formulaic writing. Use specific prompts that include your brand voice guidelines and character limits.

Figma AI text generation. Generates placeholder text that's contextually relevant to your design. More useful than lorem ipsum for testing how real content affects your layout.

Writer (writer.com). Enterprise AI writing tool with brand voice consistency. Overkill for small teams, but useful for large organizations that need consistent copy across products. Plans start at $18/user/month.

Research and analysis

Dovetail AI (dovetailapp.com). AI-powered analysis of research transcripts. Automatically identifies themes, tags insights, and generates summaries from interview recordings. Saves hours of manual analysis work.

Miro AI (miro.com). AI features within Miro for clustering sticky notes, generating summaries of boards, and suggesting groupings during affinity mapping sessions.
